If you’re new to online marketing, you could probably wonder, what is GetResponse?
GetResponse is an email marketing services solution founded in 1998 by Simon Grabowski. The domain GetResponse.com was registered in 1998 by the CEO, the founder.
This application allows you to create a mailing list and capture users’ data, such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, date of birth, gender, etc. And to use these users’ data to personalize your marketing message to improve conversion.
GetResponse allows you to create beautiful newsletters for your subscribers. Create autoresponders’ messages triggered based on predefined events—capture user’s data for advanced marketing intelligence.
And not just that.
Whether your website is built with Joomla, PrestaShop, Drupal, WordPress, etc… You can use the GetResponse email solution. It integrates with all the major blogging and e-commerce software.
You can also enable web forms on your Facebook Business page to capture new subscribers. It makes it easy to find and collect new subscribers.

The GetResponse signup process is straightforward. No complex signup process is involved.
First, visit this link to navigate to the GetResponse website.
On this page, click on the “Sign up free” button at the top right, as shown in the image below.
Unlike competitors, you don’t have to enter your credit card details to sign up for the 30-day free trial offer.
It is completely free—no hidden charges. No credit card is required. Only your name and a valid email address are required.
Enter your account registration details on the next page, and hit the “create account” button below.
A verification email will be sent to complete the signup process; you must verify your email address.
Once you complete this process, your account is ready to go.
How to Import Your List in GetResponse
If you have an existing mailing list with other marketing solutions, you may first want to import your contact list.
This is easy to complete in Getresponse.
Log into your account, and first, create a list. Your list name can be anything of your choice. But it makes it relevant to the list’s interest.
This will help you in the future to remember why you created the list and help in creating the right message for the right audience.
After creating your first list, click the “Add contact” button on the page.
It will take you to this page, where you have two options on how to import your list.
You can import your contact one by one manually. Or upload a file in CSV format, use external services, or paste rows.
The next thing is to enter your name and email address on file. Agree to the terms and conditions, and hit the “add contact” button.
Your email subscribers will be added to the list you’ve just created.
Now that your first Getresponse list is ready, you’d want to create a web form to capture more email subscribers.

How to Create Web Forms in Getresponse?
This is something I like about Getresponse web forms.
It is easy to use and offers many options to create the right web form for your blog message.
As an advanced form builder, Getresponse offers a drag and drops form builder. The interface is user-friendly and clean, making the process easy to follow, even for beginners.
When writing this line, there are four ways to create your web forms in Getresponse.
The List Builder Wizard is the easiest way to get your forms up and running in minutes. But this is only good if you’re creating embedded web forms.
The list builder apps are the right tool if you’re creating other forms, like scroll or exit popup forms.
There are 220 predesigned email form templates ready to use. 180 landing page templates, 700 web form templates, 40 marketing funnel templates, and 5,000 stock photos.
Each of these form templates can be customized to fit your website needs. Also, the form templates come in different sizes, formats, industries, and types.
I have created a couple of web forms inside the Getresponse app for this blog.
The sign-up form on this blog homepage was created inside Getresponse and the sticky sidebar web form. Though, I use another WordPress plugin to make it sticky. That’s not part of the Getresponse features.
The web form in the image below was also created with Getresponse too. I would have done better because I am not a graphics designer anywhere.
The list builder apps are more advanced and allow you to create any web form. Whether you want to create popup forms, scroll forms, top-notification bar forms, download boxes, exit pop up, shake the box, image boxes, etc.
Getresponse list builder apps allow you to create any marketing forms in minutes. You don’t have to be a tech guru to create any of these forms.

Unlimited Sign-up Forms Per List
There is no restriction on how many sign-up forms you can create per list.
This is a great advantage if you have to create a different sign-up form for the same list on different website pages.
Let’s say you’ve created a list for “website traffic eBook download” in GetResponse.
You want to capture subscribers to this list from your blog homepage. Ideally, you may also want to capture subscribers to the list in relevant blog posts.
This is easy to achieve in GetResponse.
Open the menu by clicking the 9 dots on your user’s account dashboard to reveal the menu panel. Click on “Forms and Survey” from the drop-down menu.
On the next screen, click on create form. From here, create and design your form and assign it to a list of your choice on the settings page.
You can create unlimited web forms for a single list and even duplicate your already-made web forms in minutes.
Getresponse Pricing and Plans
How much does Getresponse cost?
Sure thing, you want to know how competitive the Getresponse pricing is fair compared to other email marketing platforms.
I will answer that question below, along with the available GetResponse email marketing plans.
There are four (4) plans available on the website. Each plan comes with different marketing tools and features. But at a very competitive price compared to its close competitors.
Here are the four plans on the website:
- Basic – Starting at $15/month for 1,000 subscribers.
- Plus – Starting at $49/month, up to 1,000 contacts.
- Professional – Starting at $99/month for a 1,000 email list.
- Max – For a large-size contact list. Get in touch to negotiate.
The price goes higher as you go beyond 1,000 contacts in your list.
Regarding the Max plan, this is a dedicated pricing plan for a large email contact list. You’ll need to contact the Getresponse support team to discuss your needs, list size, request a demo, and negotiate the price.
Key Differences in Plans and Features
All the Getresponse plans cover the basics of email marketing anyone could need. But there are marketing features that set each plan apart from the other.
You may want to review this to decide what plans best fit your marketing needs.
The core features of the basic plan, which are also covered in the other 3 plans, include the following:

Take another look at the pricing image above. You will notice all the plans are displayed in the 1,000-contact list number. Yet, the prices are different.
This tells us it is not just about numbers but the marketing features in each Getresponse plan.
So let’s take a look at the major differences in the plans. For me, the core differences in the plans are:
This is Getresponse’s full set of tools and marketing templates for building automated sales funnels. These tools allow you to move customers from one stage to another in the conversion funnel.
Unless you’re on the “Plus” plan or higher, these features are not fully available in the basic plan.
In the Getresponse conversion funnels tools, there are 3 types of funnels:
- Lead funnel.
- Webinar Funnel.
- Sales Funnel.
As a Getresponse basic plan customer, there is no restriction on your use of the leads funnel. But you’re limited to creating just one sale funnel.
In the Getresponse basic plan, you cannot access webinar tools or funnels. The webinar funnels are completely out of the Basic plan for customers.
It is available in the “Plus” plan and higher. And it comes with some features restriction even in the Plus plan. You can only host up to 100 attendees; the recording time is capped at 3 hours.
You can’t do a paid webinar in the Plus plan. Only in the Professional and Max can you run paid webinars for attendees.
This powerful tool lets you build complex autoresponder email sequences based on user behavior. This is far more than the traditional autoresponder email services.

How Getresponse Pricing Compare to Others
To be fair, Getresponse pricing is cheaper than many of its rivals. But that’s not to say it offers less-quality marketing tools.
On the contrary, you get more for paying less with Getresponse. Let’s look at what other competitors are doing in terms of pricing.
Aweber prices 500 contact lists at $19/month. While Aweber offers a 30-days forever free account for a 500-subscriber base, $19 for 500 contacts is a bit above the industry average price in a paid plan.
Active Campaign prices the same 1,000 contact list at $29/month. And from what is displayed on the company’s website, the Getresponse Basic plan fairs better than the ActiveCampaign Lite plan feature-wise.
ConverKit is an email marketing solution that offers a forever free plan for up to 1,000 subscribers. That’s truly a good marketing offer.
But when you go up the ladder and decide to take up the paid plan. A 1,000-subscriber list is priced at $29/per month.
MailChimp offers a competitive price over Getresponse, but the marketing tools can’t be compared to Getresponse. And good to note that MailChimp also charges for both subscribe and unsubscribe contacts in your list.
This could be a high hidden cost to your marketing budget. Why should anyone be paying for unsubscribing contacts on their list?

The good thing is that this feature is available on all plans. But you’re restricted to just one sale funnel on the Basic plan. And you can’t use the user-abandoned cart function.

Double or Single opt-ins?
For beginners, let’s explore what double opt-in and single opt-in are.
In every email marketing solution, adding subscribers to your mailing list requires that users opt-in to receive newsletters from you. They need to give you their permission before you can send them email messages.
So, if you use a single opt-in for your email sign-up process, it means once the user fills in the required information and hits the CTA button (call-to-action), he’s automatically joining your mailing list.
But if you enable the double opt-in process for email signup, users must confirm their email address before joining your mailing list.
Even if there is a gift for subscribing, they won’t access it until after their email address has been confirmed.
Both sign-up processes have advantages and disadvantages.
The main advantage of a single opt-in process is that it makes getting people on your list easy. As a result, it grows your list size faster than when double opt-in is enabled.
People don’t have to complete the email verification process to join your newsletter and receive the gift.
The disadvantage is that your contact list can quickly fill up with spam email addresses, bots, and people who aren’t genuinely interested in your message.

For me, double opt-in is way better than a single sign-up process.
Though, I have used the single opt-in process a couple of times. But from personal experience, having a small engaged email list size is better than having large but unengaged subscribers.
