Event blogging, if done well, can generate significant passive income within a short period. It’s a very popular means of making money online among seasonal bloggers.
It’s not for part-time bloggers alone, even professional online marketers build micro-niche event blogs to supplement their main business blog.
Like all things worthwhile, event blogging requires some well-thought preparations, planning, research, and perfectly executed strategies.
But first, if you’re new to this whole thing called online marketing, it’s important we discussed what is event blogging?
What is Event Blogging?
Event Blogging, also known as micro niche blogging, is a type of blogging where the blog is created to write about a specific seasonal event.
These types of blogs concentrate on upcoming events, festivals, special days, annual world/business conferences, popular submit, cultural, religious, international holidays, etc.

Below I discussed some of the obvious characteristics of event-niche blogging.
#1. Content are Time-Sensitive
Due to the nature of topics been discussed on these blogs, it’s safe to say most of the content on such blogs is time-sensitive information.
Within a couple of days or weeks, the information might become outdated and no more searched for.
It could be seasonal events, new year celebrations, annual events, etc. Whatever it is, the information goes along with the date, time, or season.
#2. Sudden Traffic Spike/dive
If you run an event blogging site, you’re most likely to experience a sudden spike in traffic. And afterward, the traffic takes a deep dive downwards once the event is over.
So, you could experience short-term gain and long-term loss with niche-event blogging sites.
#3. Short-Term Work Involved.
You can build an event blog in three, four, five, or six months in advance of your target event and still earn from your efforts.
Though it may not be all that massive income, you can still earn a pretty decent income if you do things the right way. Especially if you know how to drive traffic to your content.

This might not be typical of all event blogs, but 90% are.
The content on micro-niche event blogs is not in-depth tutorials or articles that range in the region of 2,500-words and above. Most articles’ lengths are short, in the 1,000- 1,500-word count maximum.

Let’s get this first before we go deeper into how to start an event blog on any of the popular topics.
For most people who go into event blogging, money is the driving force.
They want to cash out before the wave of success blow’s off on the topic. And if it could be meant to be a money-printing machine every season.
Passion is of less importance here, rather, your level of skills and expertise in digital marketing plays a crucial role in the success of your micro-niche event blog.
This is because you’re limited on time for the learning curve. You need to bring along with you some level of expertise in internet marketing.
This will help you scale quickly, build the blog faster, put content on it, discover the right monetization methods, and position the blog as the go-to source for the relevant topic.
The first step towards creating a successful event blog is to research for a profitable event. A topic with lots of Google searches and people are spending money on.
So let’s start with some excellent keyword research tools for this purpose.
#1. Choose Profitable Event
To find your perfect niche event, you need to run in-depth keyword research.
I’m sorry but I just don’t buy the idea of starting your blog mainly on what you’re passionate about. Monye is a BIG motivational force. Passion alone won’t build a successful business online.
You need to find the balance between what you’re passionate about and the profit side of it. After all, you’re doing this to earn a living, right?
So we have to look at the profit side of it as well. If it’s not marketable, it won’t be profitable. This is the first step towards creating a successful online business.
The keyword tool we’re going to use to start our research is no other than Google trends.
Google trend is a keyword tool for analyzing the popularity of a given search query within the selected time range. And you can compare search, topics, brand queries side-by-side.
So let’s start…
Visit Google Trend here to enter your seed keyword.
In the image below, I entered “Black Friday”, “World cup”, and Valentine’s day” all as my seed keywords. I do this to compared their seasonal popularities.
As you can see in the image, Black Friday seems to be more popular than the rest search terms. And while it’s more popular, the month of November is when the search begins and ends.
Also, make sure the search trend of your base keyword is either constant or trending upward. If the trend curve is on the decline, that’s not an ideal topic to blog about.
So if I had to create an event blog around Black Friday topics, I would be more prepared for it in November.
But our keyword research steps have just begun. Next, take your winning seed keyword into your keyword tool of choice.
You’ll have to do this because Black Friday is just a broad topic with hundreds of subtopics. You need to narrow down your chosen topic.
This is why you’ll need a keyword analysis tool for this purpose.
I use Semrush for keyword research here. This is because it’s more versatile and robust than many of the keyword tools out there.
For the experiment, I took the Black Friday search term into the Semrush Keyword Magic Tool, you can see the result in the image below.
Now we have more detailed keyword data about the Black Friday search term.
This step is necessary because it is not enough to create your event blog around the broad topic of Black Friday. To make the most of it, you have to focus on a section of the Black Friday deal.
This could be tools, wear, health remedies, footwear, etc. Whatever it is, make sure you narrow down on your audience selection. So you can create better-tailored content for your audience.
For instance, you can create an event blog around internet marketing tools that are sold at discounted prices during the Black Friday season.
Or you may choose to start an event blog around sports equipment that goes on sale during a particular sporting event.
The idea is to create a focused blog. A blog that is well relevant and addresses a particular section of the audience.
#2. Register Your Domain/Hosting
Once you’re done with your keyword research, the next step is to register a domain name and purchase the right hosting package.
For the domain name, while the exact name match might not hold weight anymore in search ranking, it will do good for branding to go for a domain name that reflects the blog topic.
At the barest minimum, choose a domain name that closely reflects your topic of discussion. It will make it easy for potential visitors to quickly understand your listing information.

#3. Install Blogging Software
There are lots of blogging software today that one can get lost or confused on which is the best blogging software.
There is Blogger, Drupal, Joomla, Life Type, WordPress, Tumblr, Squarespace, etc. But to save you time and headache, go with WordPress.
WordPress is the #1 self-acclaimed industry content management system. It lets you build an incredible blog quickly.
The software is constantly maintained and updated to bring innovations and make it easier to use than any other blogging software around. Plus, it’s supported by a large community of developers.
If this is your first time setting up a blog, it could be daunting installing WordPress. But trust me, it’s not that difficult to do.
You can watch through some of the YouTube tutorials on how to install a WordPress blog.
Depending on your web host, the process is similar in all shared hosting cPanel. But if you go with a managed WordPress hosting, it gets easier.

#4. Chose The Right Blog Theme Design
This is another part of the ingredient you might need to spend some cash on.
Though there are lots of free WordPress themes today, from experience, many of these themes come with limitations. And these designs or use limitations might hinder your blog look and feel negative.
So I suggest you give a premium blog theme a try. If you have the money to do just that, consider premium WordPress themes.

#5. Start Publishing Content
Now that your blog is ready, live, and well designed to receive visitors, it’s time to start putting content on it.
But this isn’t just about any other content. This is about publishing the right content that drives search traffic to your blog in due time.
You want to publish timely information that meets users at the time of need. Content that solves the user’s problems at the right time.
There is only one problem here, and that’s is…
You have to anticipate the future and create the right content that will meet the user’s expectations when the event is finally here.
Like we did in step #1 above, we will have to run in-depth keyword research to find profitable search terms. We need to dig through the keyword database to discover high search volume keywords during the event.
Remember, these keywords MUST be relevant and searched for during the event season. So, it’s not just about finding keywords, but about looking for the right keywords to write content around.

Base on your seed keyword, you’ll need to research for longtail keywords users are searching for during the event period.
If you type in your seed keyword into the Semrush keyword magic tool, it will reveal other related search queries to your seed keywords.
For this event blogging tutorial, let’s use our seed keyword “Black Friday”.
I typed in Black Friday into the Semrush keyword tool. Here is the result.
If you click on any of the “keyword groups” as shown in the image above (the arrow field), it will reveal a list of keywords in the main panel with your selected keyword group.
Now, we have more data about our potential audience. We now know what type of deals people are searching for during the Black Friday celebration.
If you closely at the above image, you’ll notice some users are searching for:
- Black Friday deals.
- Best Black Friday Deals.
- Best Black Friday and CyberMonday Deals.
In an ideal world, I wouldn’t recommend you go for these types of search terms. This is because the users are not specific enough to know what kind of deals they’re looking for?
But if you go down the image a bit, you’ll see other search terms like:
- Black Friday Laptops Deals.
- Walmart Black Friday Deals.
- iPhone Black Friday Deals.
- Walmart Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.
These are the types of long-tail keywords you should consider targeting in your content. But our task is yet to complete…
We need to go deeper into each keyword above to find a more in-depth long-tail keyword for each variation.
For instance, we could want to find out what type of Black Friday laptop deals are the users looking for?
- Is it a new laptop?
- Or fairly used one?
- What model of laptop?
- What’s the brand of the laptop?
- What price range is he looking to buy?
- From what country is he coming online to shop?
There are a series of findings we can explore further in order not to miss out on a golden opportunity the Black Friday celebration presents to you. The opportunity to make the most of the buying spree on the internet.
But you can only have your share of the internet money if you know exactly what your potential audience is looking to buy during such a period.
For this reason, we need to make use of another keyword tool to further analyze the keywords from the Semrush keyword data above.
The Keyword tool we’re going to use is called Keyword.io
This is one of the best Google long-tail keyword finders on the planet today. You can discover hundreds of long-tail keywords for your chosen search terms.
Though these long-tail keywords won’t have a high volume of monthly searches, they will bring more relevant and well-targeted audiences in the long run.
So, I took one of the search terms “Black Friday Laptops Deals” into Keyword.io. Here is the search result for the exact term.
As you can see, we now have more in-depth knowledge about our potential laptop users. Now we have answers to the above questions.
We know what kind of laptop the user might be looking for. The price range of the laptops. The preferred operating systems. In what part of the world does the user want the deal.
In fact, what you’re looking at in the image above is just a glimpse of information about the search term “Black Friday Laptop deals” from the Keyword.io

Now you can generate an endless list of content from just one single seed keyword.
You now have more content ideas to write about and more ways to earn from your event blog. The keyword information you discover here will become useful when we get to the monetization section of this event blogging guide.
The next thing you need to start doing is to write content around any of the long-tail keywords relevant to your event blog audience.
At least, make sure you have 15 high-quality content on your blog before the start of the event. This will ensure your visitors have something to engage with when they visit.
#6. Content Optimization
It is not enough to published content for the sake of it…your content must be highly optimized for increased search visibility.
This is because you don’t have plenty of time at hand. The event is right here, your content needs to be on the first page of SERP. Otherwise, you won’t make a dime from your efforts so far.
First, if you’re blogging on WordPress, which I assume you should, install the Yoast SEO plugin. The Yoast SEO plugin is not a magic fix to content optimization…

Before going ahead to write your content, take a look at what other web pages have writing on the subject.
Google your search term to see what pages come up for it. There is plenty to learn from this process.
You can discover more keywords on the page to include your content. Analyze their backlinks profile. Discover the content structures, articles length, monetization tactics, etc.
You need all this information to make your article the best-in-class content.
#7. Build Backlinks
There is no shortcut around this one…
If you want your event blog to drive the most traffic from the search engines, you need to improve its search visibility.
And one way you can do that is by building high-quality relevant backlinks to your web pages. You can either buy (sorry if that’s hurt) or earn links from other webmasters.
Since this is a one-way blog project, trying to earn links from other website owners won’t cut it.
You need to find orthodox methods to build links to your money blog in time. And in a way that doesn’t trigger Google’s link penalty.

#8. Monetization Method
Your journey to making money from your event blog really begins. If you get it wrong here, every one of your efforts so far will count for nothing.
The ultimate goal is to earn as much as you can from your efforts starting the event blog. But if you don’t know how to sell to your audience, you won’t make much from it.
There are lots of blog monetization methods online suitable for your type of blog project. You could monetize the blog with:
- AdSense or any other contextual ad platform.
- Affiliate Marketing.
- Direct Ads selling.
- Sponsor posts.
- Offer Services.
From my own experience, affiliate marketing will work best for an event blogging blog. My advice here is not to be taking wholeheartedly.
You can experiment with others to see what works for your type of audience, topic, and blog.
But since most people during the seasonal events are looking to “buy”, the best you can do to help them is to promote discount products/services.
Research for relevant products and services your potential audience might be interested in during the season.
As a reminder, if you have done a good job in the keyword research section above, you should have a great idea of what type of products/services to offer your audience.
Your content target keywords should serve as the starting point to find relevant affiliate products to promotes.
If you publish an article on the “best HP laptop Black Friday deal”. It is common sense to promote laptop affiliate products within the post. This will increase your chances of making sales on the event day.
You can join affiliate network places like Shareasale. It is one of the most popular and trusted affiliate network programs. Amazon and ClickBank are other affiliate programs you should consider.
There are thousands of affiliate products and services to promotes in these places. But take your time to find the best affiliate network program for your event blog.
Some affiliate network programs focus more on digital marketing tools, while some focus on household equipment. And you’ll find other affiliate network places mostly focus on health care products.
So you have done some research before signing up with any affiliate network program.
If you want to monetize with contextual advertising like Google AdSense, then traffic volume becomes an important factor to consider. And you’ll need to look into the event duration as well.
Base on the amount of traffic you can generate to your event blog during the period, can you earn enough from Google AdSense in short a period to achieve your earning goal?
The answer is for you to guess, not me.
If you possess a high level of expertise, time, skills, and want to blog full-time, you can combine event base topics with regular blogging.
If you go through the archive of this blog, there are post that only attracts traffic at a specific period of the year. These are examples of event base topics.
