You don’t need to hire a website design professional or developer to do it for you. Following the steps by step guide in this post, you can start and complete the steps without any assistance.

Let’s dive in.

What is Genesis Framework Child Theme?

Think about it like the Skelton that holds the human body. This Skelton is what gives the human body its distinctive shape.

Without Skelton, human flesh can’t hold together as one piece. Everything would crumble down without a framework that holds it.

The Genesis framework can be described as the foundation in which a building sits on. It gives the building the roadmap to follow.

While it can be described in its simplest form as the flesh or clothes that cover the human skeleton. It is what gives the bone covers and makes it look fancy to the outer look.

Flesh gives the human body beauty and provides necessary cosmetics artistry.

That’s just the simple definition or analogy of what a Genesis framework and the Genesis child themes are.

Just as the flesh and the skeleton need each other to give the human body structure and beauty. So also, the child theme and the Genesis framework need each other to work perfectly.

Installing Child Theme In The Genesis Framework

For the child theme to function properly, it needs the parent theme installed on your WordPress blog. You can install anyone first. But the Genesis framework needs to be in operation or activated before the child theme can function.

This means either you install the child theme first, or the parent theme which is the Genesis framework is advisable to activate the Genesis framework first so things don’t go ugly.

In the past, most installation or uploading of files in your WordPress blog was usually done by an FTP program. But fast forward to today, you don’t need to know anything about what an FTP program is.

This is what you need to know to be able to install any WordPress theme.

After purchasing the theme, you desired. Or you saw one (maybe a free theme) on the net that you admire so much and want to use for your blog design.

Download it to your computer and save it. Though once downloaded, it automatically gets saved into the download folder on your computer.

Now navigate to your WordPress dashboard and follow the steps below:

  • Hover your mouse on “Appearance”
  • Click on “Themes”
  • Click on “Add new”

Once uploaded, you can click the preview button to see how your new theme design will look on your blog or you can just activate it directly.

The choice is yours.

Here is a short video to make things a bit clearer. Note, I didn’t activate the uploaded theme at the end of this video because more than anything else, it is just for demo purposes.

In your case, you need to click on the activation button to have your theme functioning.

Repeat the same process to install the Genesis framework too. And don’t forget to always have it activated for any Genesis child theme you want to use on your WordPress blog.

Now after the installation of the child theme. You’ll need to visit its setting page to have one or two settings change from their default setting to your preference.

Once you’ve finished customizing your Genesis child theme, remember to save your setting.

The header logo of the Genesis child theme is an important aspect that needs customization. For your professional look, you can hire someone to do it for you or you can use a graphic design tool like Canva to get the job done.
